The Division of Infectious Diseases at Providence Health Care (St. Paul’s Hospital and Mt. St. Joseph’s Hospital) and the Department of Medicine at Mt. St. Joseph’s (MSJ) invite applications for an Infectious Diseases Physician/Internist. This position bridges two of PHC’s acute facilities, Mount St. Joseph Hospital (MSJ) and St. Paul’s Hospital (SPH) and two services: Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. MSJ is a PHC acute care facility in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood of Vancouver, with 200 beds and serves a diverse population. SPH is a 500 bed clinical academic teaching hospital in downtown Vancouver. It is expected that the physician recruited will also be recommended for a Clinical Faculty position with the University of British Columbia, Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases.
This MSJ/PHC Infectious Diseases/Internal Medicine role has dual roles including Infectious Diseases Clinic and Inpatient ID Consultations at MSJ and up to 8-12 weeks per year of Internal Medicine at MSJ if desired. In addition, a component of Infectious Diseases work at SPH may also be available, if preferred by the candidate. MSJ is the anchor site for this PHC ID/IM role.
The successful candidate must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC in Infectious Diseases and in Internal Medicine. They must have formal training in Infectious Diseases. Additional clinical or academic training such as Fellowship or specialized training in wound care and/or diabetic foot infections, infections in marginalized populations and/or care of the elderly are highly desirable. They must also be able to collaborate with other divisions and a multidisciplinary team, including surgeons, internists, podiatrists, and nurses.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the general Infectious Diseases consult service at MSJ and participate in the after-hours and/or weekend call pool for SPH/MSJ Infectious Diseases (maximum 1 weekend in 8). They will also take part in Internal Medicine care at MSJ. They will be expected to lead specialized programs e.g. wound care programs, antimicrobial stewardship efforts, participate in ongoing clinical research, education, and quality improvement initiatives.
